Ready to bring scripts to life and discover what makes a performance truly unforgettable? In this fun and supportive class, you’ll team up with a scene partner each week to explore short scripts that dive deep into character, motivation, and storytelling.

With the guidance of your director, you’ll uncover fresh ways to approach a scene and experiment with the choices that shape a character’s journey. From discovering your character’s tactics to seeing how small changes can transform a performance, you’ll gain hands-on experience and valuable insights into the creative process.

Whether you’re a beginner ready to take the leap or an intermediate actor looking to refine your craft, this class is a welcoming space for all skill levels. Come ready to learn, grow, and have a great time while connecting with fellow creatives.

IMPROV: Character Lab

Whether it’s your first time singing or you’re ready for the next level, our professional Vocal Coach is ready to guide you. Each class starts with a vocal warm-up to promote good practices and then we’ll dive into new group songs each week. We want you to sing your hearts out and have fun! This class is also great for actors looking to expand their vocal skills. All levels are welcome to join. *Voice only--no dance. Students will share a mini-concert on the last day for family and friends.

*Please be sure you can commit to the schedule and especially the final two classes (dress rehearsal & showcase day) and communicate any conflicts before registering. Unapproved absences may result in removal from some or all performance pieces--the show must go on, after all. 

*Combine with our Youth Improv Club (from 11:30 am-1:00 pm) and you’ll be at NCTC for two consecutive classes from 10:00 am-1:00 pm. More drama = more fun!

Musical Theatre Mash-up

Step into the spotlight and let your talents shine at our "how-to" musical theatre camp. Our experienced teaching artists will guide you through the essential skills of musical theatre, including group singing, acting, and dancing. Students will explore the world of kid-focused musicals such as Seussical, Matilda, Annie and Shrek. No experience is required in this ensemble class. Students will prepare a mini-showcase for invited guests on the final day of camp.

Get ready for a summer of mystery, laughter, and quick thinking! In this one-of-a-kind camp, teens will sharpen their improv skills with fast-paced games and exercises designed to boost spontaneity, creativity, and confidence. Mornings will be spent mastering the art of improvisation and developing unforgettable characters. In the afternoons, you’ll step into thrilling murder mystery scenarios—piecing together clues, interrogating suspects, and uncovering the truth. Can you crack the case, or will the culprit escape? This unique experience is unlike anything else in the Bay Area—don’t miss your chance to be part of the mystery! (Note: This class does not culminate in a performance).

Step into the world of Ride the Cyclone in this ultimate super fan summer intensive! Did you see NCTC’s 2024 production or did you find this viral hit musical online? Here’s your chance at a backstage pass! Work with the director of NCTC’s production to explore the characters through scenework, sing through group numbers, and learn choreography just like the pros. Students will also attend a special evening rehearsal for a sneak peek of the returning cast as they prepare for their July remount production. Whether you’re a die-hard Cyclone fan or new to the show, this is your one-of-a-kind chance to go deep into the world of this dark and enchanting musical. (Note: This class does not culminate in a student performance).
