Description: No experience acting? No problem! Improv is all about listening and responding--and as a functioning adult, you’ve probably already got that down. So, grab some friends and join the other cool kids in the drama room for the BEST. IMPROV. GAMES. EVER!

ADC Students are required to show proof of Covid vaccination. Masking will be optional in classroom space and mandatory in NCTC’s lobby area.

 

Writing Lab

Creating Queer Characters

Students: Adults 18+ 

Day/Time: Wednesdays, 7:00-8:30 pm (PST)

Dates: October 5-26, 2022 (4 classes)

Level: Beginner-Intermediate

Tuition: $120

DESCRIPTION: How do you create authentic portrayals of LGBTQ people for the stage or screen? With Los Angeles-based screenwriter Felix Mack, you’ll delve into what it takes to develop realistic, multi-dimensional characters for queer stories. After discussion and short writing assignments meant to ignite your creativity, students will create monologues or short 2-3 person scenes that feature queer characters. All levels of experience are welcome.

*This class is held ONLINE via Zoom, Pacific Standard Time.

Scene Study

Day/Time: Thursdays, 7:00-9:00 pm

Dates: October 6-27, 2022 (4 classes)

Instructor: Education Director Stephanie Temple

Location: Onsite at NCTC

Level: Beginner-Intermediate

Tuition: $150

DESCRIPTION: Each week, you’ll work with a script and a scene partner on short pieces that will allow you to explore character, motivation, and tactics. Your director will help you find new ways of approaching a scene and discuss how they affect the outcome. In the end, you’ll learn how the individual choices actors make can shape their performances, and get an inside look at this process. All levels of experience are welcome.

Teen Acting Ensemble

$350

Calendar Oct 15, 2022 at 10 am, runs for 8 weeks

Students: Grades 6-8 

Day/Time: Saturdays, 10:00 am-11:30 am

Dates: October 15- December 10, 2022 (8 classes, no class 11/26)

Two performances on 12/10 (1 pm & 3 pm)

Instructor: TBD with Education Director Stephanie Temple

Location: Onsite at NCTC

Level: Beginner to intermediate (no experience needed) 

In this acting intensive, students work with a director on scenes and monologues for a Conservatory showcase in December. Learn the essentials of scene work within a supportive ensemble. Build confidence in your solo work with specially chosen monologues and discover audition tips & tricks. This class is also a great opportunity for students preparing for high school auditions!

Guests will be invited to a Conservatory showcase featuring middle and high school students on 12/10 @ 1pm & 3pm. Students must be available from 10 am-5 pm on showcase day.

*Combine with the Move & Groove (10/15-11/19 from 11:45 am-12:45 pm) and you’ll be at NCTC for two consecutive classes from 10 am-12:45 pm. More drama=more fun!

*Scholarships are available! Please complete this scholarship form prior to registering. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively, so be sure to WAIT FOR A SCHOLARSHIP CODE BEFORE REGISTERING AND PAYING FOR A CLASS. 

Payment plan available: $200 deposit plus 2 payments of $75.00, paid weekly.

Youth Acting Ensemble

Level: Beginner

This youth acting class focuses on character creation and puts the “fun” in fundamentals. Students will learn acting and movement techniques to create unique characters and explore their world through improvisation and costume play. Join our great cast of characters! Note: This brief class does not have a final presentation for families.

*Combine with the Move & Groove (10/15-11/19 from 11:45 am-12:45 pm) and you’ll be at NCTC for two consecutive classes from 10 am-12:45 pm. More drama=more fun!

High School Performance Ensemble- FALL only

Please be sure you can commit to the schedule and the showcase day before registering. (Students must be available from 10 am-5 pm on showcase day. Otherwise, class is from 11:00 am-1:00 pm.)

*This class is part one of two. In addition to scenework during the fall, ensemble members will explore spring play options and gain work experience as rotating teaching assistants before class. In the spring session (1/7-5/7,) this group will transition to play production. The fall session is open to all. Admittance to the more advanced spring session (based on experience, maturity, and project chosen) is determined by the Education Director. Learn more about the High School Performance Ensemble HERE

Move & Groove

Using the music of Broadway’s hit musicals, we’ll explore movement and creative expression through dance! Part-acting and part-dancing, this one-of-a-kind class will have you diving into character, working on synchronicity, and learning choreography in a dynamic new way. All levels are welcome to join. Note: This brief class does not have a final presentation for families. 

*Combine with one of our Acting classes (from 10:00 am-11:30 am) and you’ll be at NCTC for two consecutive classes from 10:00 am-12:45 pm. More drama=more fun!

Teen Acting Ensemble

Dates: January 28- March 25, 2023 (8 classes)

Location: Onsite at NCTC

Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Step into the limelight! In this immersive class, students will create a 20-minute mini-play for family and friends. Here’s your chance to work together on a story, develop your character from start to finish, and learn what it takes to build a performance from page to stage. This is a great way to learn how to work with scripts, take direction, memorize lines, and bond with your fellow actors over the thrill of performance! (Play title is TBD)

*Attendance is very important for this performance class and unapproved absences may result in removal from some or all of your assigned scenes. Please be sure you can commit to the schedule and especially the final two classes (dress rehearsal & show day) and communicate any conflicts before registering.
