About the Workshop

No experience acting? No problem! Improv is all about listening and responding--and as a functioning adult, you’ve probably already got that down. So, grab some friends and join the other cool kids in the drama room for the BEST. IMPROV. GAMES. EVER!

About Jenny Rosen (she/her)

A company member at BATS Improv since 2003, Jenny served as Dean of the BATS School of Improv for four years. She has led corporate workshops for Google, Industrial Light and Magic, and Pixar. She enjoys using theater games to inspire collaboration, positivity, and creativity in and out of the classroom. Jenny regularly performs long and short-form improvisational theater at Fort Mason Center and has performed in Aspen, Improv Olympic (LA), The MET theater (NYC), The Moth, and at the SF Fringe Festival. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Jenny Rosen lives in Potrero Hill with her husband and two children, Henry and Magnolia.

Musical Theatre: Songs of Magic

Students: Ages 9-13 (must have completed 3rd grade by camp)

Dates: June 24-28, 2024 (1 week)

Location: Onsite at NCTC

Level: Beginner to intermediate

Tuition: $475

Description: Step into the spotlight and let your talents shine at our musical theatre camp, where we'll explore the enchanting world of musicals that feature magic. Defy gravity in Wicked. Join Pippin on his magical quest of self-discovery. Step in time with everyone's favorite nanny, Mary Poppins. Uncover the mystery that is Xanadu. Learn show-stopping musical numbers and choreography inspired by iconic Broadway productions. No experience is required in this ensemble class. Students will prepare a mini-showcase for invited guests on the final day of camp.

*Grades 4-5: Join the Youth Teen Ensemble (July 10-21) to participate in our production of Enchanted Fairytales.

*Grades 6-8: Join the Teen Summer Ensemble (July 10-22) to participate in our production of Aladdin’s Adventure.

 

Payment plan available: $125 deposit plus 4 payments of $87.50, paid every two weeks.

Teen Improv: Drama Olympics

Students: Ages 12-16 (must have completed 7th grade by camp)

Day/Time: Monday-Friday, 10:00 am-3:00 pm

Dates: June 24-28, 2024 (1 week)

Location: Onsite at NCTC

Level: Beginner to intermediate

Tuition: $475

Description: 

Ready, set, improvise! Unleash your creativity and build confidence at our Drama Olympics, where the stage is your arena and laughter is the ultimate prize. You’ll work with a seasoned Improv coach to showcase your talents in this workshop inspired by the excitement and spirit of the Olympics. Students will hone their improvisation skills in a supportive environment and discover how to make strong choices that further character and situation. Sessions will focus on developing and rehearsing an improv and sketch comedy showcase for invited guests on the final day.

*Grades 7-9: Combine with Teen Summer Ensemble (7/8-20) and join the play, Aladdin’s Adventure.

Youth Summer Ensemble

Production: Enchanted Fairytales

Students: Ages 9-11 (must have completed 3rd grade by camp)

Day/Time: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-3:00 pm (2 weeks, no after-care available)

Dates: July 8-July 19, 2024 (Presentation on Friday, 7/19 @ 3:00 pm)

Location: Onsite at NCTC

Level: All levels

Tuition: $875

Description: In this two-week performance camp, students learn acting skills through group games, character study, and movement--all in a real theater setting! Enchanted Fairytales is a collection of well-known stories with a sprinkle of magic; Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Snow White and the Magic Mirror, and Aladdin. The camp culminates in a costumed mini-presentation for invited guests.

Payment plan available: $200 deposit plus 10 payments of $61.36, paid weekly. Final payment of $61.40.

Teen Summer Ensemble

Production: Aladdin's Adventure

Students: Ages 11-16, (must have completed 6th grade by camp)

Day/Time: Monday-Friday, 9:30 am- 3:30 pm (2 weeks, no after-care available)

Dates: July 8-July 20, 2024 (Two performances on Saturday, 7/20 @ 11:00 am & 1:00 pm)

Instructors: Stephanie Temple & Will Mattingly

Location: Onsite at NCTC

Level: All levels

Tuition: $925

Description: Students will learn acting skills through group games, character study, and rehearsal techniques--all in a real theater setting. The class culminates in a fully-produced play (with professionally designed costumes and sets).

Discover the magic, mystery, and excitement of Aladdin’s Adventure, a story about a boy who finds a magic lamp and must defeat an evil Magician. Step into the bustling streets of Agrabah and immerse yourself in the vibrant world of this adaptation of 1001 Arabian Nights. The play highlights the timeless themes of friendship, love, and the power of believing in oneself.
